According to The Telegraph, Middlesbrough are leading the race to land Folarin Balogun on loan from Arsenal this month.

Boro are flying in the Championship at the moment. Chris Wilder has completely revitalised the Riversiders and they’re very much in the playoff conversation right now, sitting seventh in the Championship.

The Teesside club are only seven points off of the automatic promotion places, and they’re planning on bolstering their squad this month.

Indeed, Boro are now in pole position to land Balogun on loan this month, and it has to be said, this would be a fantastic signing.

Balogun has been nothing short of extraordinary at U23 level this season.

He’s scored 13 goals in 11 PL2 appearances, while he’s also appeared four times for the senior team this term – playing twice in both the Premier League and the Carabao Cup.

Unfortunately for Balogun, he hasn’t been able to fully establish himself in Mikel Arteta’s starting XI, so a loan move in January seems to be the right move as he looks to gain more experience in the men’s game.

This would be a great move for Boro, but it could also be a fantastic move for Balogun and Arsenal. After all, Chris Wilder is one of the best managers in the country – winning the LMA Manager of the Year award back in 2019.
