Guy Branston has indicated that he would be tempted to bring Mohamed Elneny to Leicester City from Premier League rivals Arsenal ‘if given the chance’, speaking to the Al Ahly TV channel.

After starting just one league game under Mikel Arteta in the first half of this season, January’s Africa Cup of Nations represents more than an opportunity for Elneny to go one step further than in 2017 and get his hands on silverware with the Egyptian national team.

The former Basel midfielder is out of contract next summer and it seems unlikely he will be handed an extension.

Elneny, then, is playing for his future. And a couple of eye-catching performances at AFCON could put the 29-year-old in the shop window as he prepares for life away from the Emirates Stadium.

Elneny’s agent admitted recently that a whole host of Turkish clubs were interested in the one-time Besiktas loanee.

According to The Mail, relegation-threatened Newcastle United are interested too with the Arsenal benchwarmer identified as someone capable of adding some grit and guile to Eddie Howe’s spluttering engine room.

But could Leicester City make a move of their own?

Guy Branston, a coach and Loan Manager at the King Power, would certainly be pleased to see Elneny arrive.

Where will Mo Elneny go after leaving Arsenal?

“If given the chance, I’d sign Mohamed Salah He’s on the top of my list!” Branston quips, via KingFut.

It goes without saying that Liverpool are not going to let their talismanic top scorer join a Premier League rival any time soon. But, while Salah is a non-starter, it’s a different story with Elneny.

“There are also Arsenal players such as Mohamed Elneny. They are very good players,” adds the Leicester-born Branston.

“I believe there are Egyptian players who can play for Leicester. I know that Al Ahly has provided players that have done well in the Premier League.

“During the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, we will be watching African footballers, especially Egyptian ones.”

Salah, Elneny and Aston Villa’s Trezeguet are the stand-out names in Egypt’s AFCON squad.

Aston Villa’s Trezeguet is also facing an uncertain future at club level, admitting recently that he would love to return to Al Ahly at some point in his career.
