Romelu Lukaku has had quite the week, and after his comments about potentially leaving Chelsea, transfer rumours have been rife.

Lukaku has, somewhat remarkably, been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, and that would certainly be an interesting move for the Belgian.

To be honest, this move is quite an obvious one due to Lukaku’s links to Antonio Conte.

Indeed, Conte was Lukaku’s gaffer at his beloved Inter Milan, and while a return to San Siro may not be on the cards for the striker, a reunion with his former manager could be.

It’s no secret that Lukaku was at his best under Conte. After all, he scored 64 goals in two seasons under the Italian, but his stats only tell a part of the story.

Indeed, while Lukaku has played well for Conte in the past, it’s his comments on his former manager that show just how loyal the striker is to the manager.

What’s Lukaku said about Conte?

Lukaku clearly has a lot of love for his former boss, claiming that he would die for the Tottenham coach.

“I would die for Conte,” Lukaku said.

“I wasn’t able to join him at Chelsea (in 2017), but I’d always said I’d played for him as soon as I left Manchester United. Conte told me very directly: ‘If you don’t work in training you won’t play, it’s essential that you know how to play with your back to goal. It’s important to meet people who tell you the absolute truth to help you improve.”

Perfect Kane replacement

There aren’t many footballers on the planet capable of replacing Harry Kane, but Lukaku is certainly one of them.

Yes, he’s not been at his very best this season, but just look at how he did under Conte at Inter.

He hit 47 goals in two league seasons, firing Inter to the Serie A title, and if Kane does still want to leave Spurs, bringing in Lukaku could be a masterstroke.

Lukaku clearly isn’t happy at Chelsea right now, and Spurs may want to take advantage of this situation.
