Mundo Deportivo report that Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho prefers a move to Tottenham Hotspur over Newcastle United this month. Both Premier League clubs have made offers to sign the Brazilian.

Coutinho, 29, has entered the final 18 months of his contract at Barcelona and looks set to leave the club – potentially as early as this month. This term, he has clocked up 16 appearances – but only five of those have been starts.

The 63-time Brazil international has lot his way since his move to Barcelona. A move back to the Premier League looks more than likely, having already spent time on loan at Bayern Munich.

The latest report states that both Newcastle and Tottenham have both made offers to sign the ex-Liverpool star. However, Mundo Deportivo state that he prefers Tottenham – owing to Newcastle’s perilous position in the table.

Newcastle or Tottenham: Which move is best for Coutinho?

Coutinho is a brilliant player – but needs a club where he will get the confidence and love from fans to reignite his superb best. At Liverpool, he was first choice and adored by fans. At Barcelona, the opposite.

Would he gain such admiration from Tottenham, when they already have the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, even Hugo Lloris? Probably not. But a move to Newcastle would give him the chance to be iconic, again.

The other aspect, is that Tottenham have many like Coutinho – Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele and Gio Lo Celso. Newcastle lack any kind of creativity from midfield and he could just keep them in the Premier League.
