Garth Crooks has praised Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah on BBC Sport for his performance against Chelsea at the weekend.

The former Tottenham Hotspur forward has included Salah in his BBC Premier League Team of his Week for his performance for Liverpool against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old Egypt international forward scored a wonder-goal in the 2-2 draw in London.

BBC Sport pundit Crooks has said that Salah has changed from last night for the better.

Verdict on Liverpool star Mohamed Salah

Crooks wrote on BBC Sport: “I heard my non-selection of Mohamed Salah in my team of the year got one or two a little hot under the collar. Well, I make no apologies for that. Salah made my team of the season but crudely chased the Golden Boot award.

“His selfishness had a negative effect on Sadio Mane in particular and, in my view, had an adverse effect on Liverpool’s campaign last season – a point I made at the time.

“This season Salah looks like a team player again and his goals are coming naturally. He is no longer looking for cheap penalties and is back to the player he was the season Liverpool won the title, and that’s why he makes my team of the week.”

World class

In our opinion, Salah is a world-class player and has been so for a number of years now.

The Liverpool forward does tend to take a lot of shots on goal and can be ‘greedy’ at times.

However, we cannot ignore his goal-record.

It is phenomenal, especially when you consider that Salah is not a ‘natural striker’.

Salah tends to start on the right and then cuts in.

The Liverpool no. 11 has scored 16 goals and provided nine assists in 20 Premier League matches so far this season.

Salah scored 22 goals and provided five assists in the league last season.

The former Chelsea player has scored 113 goals in 178 Premier League appearances so far in his career.
