Ryan Taylor has shared that rumoured Newcastle United signing, Kieran Trippier is ‘proven’, as he told the Transfer Show on Sky Sports (03/01/22 at 7:30 pm)
The former Magpies player added that joining the ‘richest club in the world’ and ‘the fanbase’ Newcastle have are reasons why Trippier will join.
The Guardian have claimed that Newcastle United are confident of sealing a £25 million deal for the England international.
The Atletico Madrid defender didn’t train with the La Liga champions on Tuesday, as the signs suggest that he could be returning to home shores.
Taylor is well aware of what it’s like playing at fullback for Newcastle, as he is excited to see Trippier potentially being the first signing of the club’s new Saudi-led ownership.
“He is proven,” said Taylor. “He is a Premier League player. So, why not?
“If you can get this deal over the line, then signing someone like Keiran Trippier, who is coming from such a big club like Atlético de Madrid, it then opens the door for other players to think, ‘well, if he is going, then I will go’.
On whether he is surprised he is going to Newcastle: “I mean his age. Going back to the Premier League. Near his family. And everything else.
“He has had a good time in Spain. He probably feels like now is the right time to leave and the project Newcastle can throw at him is one he probably can’t refuse. How can you refuse it? You are going to the richest club in the world. And the fanbase they have got. That’s the reason why he’s joining.”

If Newcastle can get Trippier over the line, then it will be a real statement signing and one that would send out a message to their relegation rivals.
Given Trippier’s experience, both in the Premier League and on the international stage, then that will help in huge ways.
Eddie Howe needs players to come in and hit the ground straight away because of their troublesome situation.
Plus, it would help if those players can bring some leadership to the dressing room and out on the pitch because it’s needed.
