Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte has told Football.London that he thinks that Hugo Lloris will sign a new contract with Spurs.

Lloris is out of contract at Tottenham at the end of the season.

The Athletic reported earlier this month that Tottenham are considering handing Lloris a new deal.

However, Foot Mercato reported this week that Nice want to sign the £100,000-a-week goalkeeper (SalarySport), who is open to leaving Spurs in the summer of 2022 and moving to the French club on a free transfer.

Conte told Football.London about Lloris: “Hugo is a player, is a Tottenham captain, is the captain. For sure, he will talk with the club, to try to find a solution.”

The Tottenham head coach added when asked if Lloris wants to stay: “I think so, I think so. I think Hugo wants to stay in this club, he loves this club, he stays well in Tottenham. I think this could be his opinion.”

What next for Hugo Lloris?

In our view, Tottenham should try to reach an agreement with Lloris over a new contract.

Yes, Lloris is 35 now, but the France international goalkeeper is still very much at the top of his game and remains a very good player.

Now, of course, Spurs need to look to the future.

However, it is clear that Tottenham are struggling to find a young goalkeeper who would replace Lloris rightaway.

Pierluigi Gollini is a back-up at Tottenham, and it does not look likely that he will replace Lloris anytime soon.
