According to FC Inter News, Liverpool have lodged an enquiry over the availability of Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter.
What’s the story?
Well, it was recently announced that Ginter would be leaving the Bundesliga outfit when his contract expires in June.
Now, Liverpool are said to have asked about the 46-cap Germany international, who Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Barcelona are also interested in.
Ginter has been a key figure for Borussia Monchengladbach this season, making 15 appearances in the Bundesliga.
However, the centre-back has no intention of staying at the Borussia Park, which has seemingly make Jürgen Klopp sit up and take notice.
The Reds don’t really need more centre-back options, as Klopp already has Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joël Matip, Joe Gomez and Nat Phillips.
However, when a player like Ginter becomes available for free, it represents a unique market opportunity.
What could Matthias Ginter bring to Liverpool?

If you haven’t heard of Ginter, a may appreciate a comparison to a better-known player.
Interestingly, the 27-year-old has been likened to Paris Saint-Germain defender Sergio Ramos, who Liverpool fans will know all too well after his clash with Mohamed Salah in 2018.
It was the Bundesliga’s official website who made the comparison.
They mention the fact Ginter can also play at right-back as a comparable trait to Ramos, while also referring to his ability on the ball.

Klopp may have plenty of centre-back options, but he doesn’t have much depth behind Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back.
In our view, that could be why Liverpool enquired about Ginter, as Klopp aims to add quality backup to the right-back department.
Keep an eye on this saga – only time will tell where Ginter ends up.
