Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to react after Ange Postecoglou revealed that Christopher Jullien is close to making his comeback from injury.

What’s the story?

Well, the £7m man has been out since December 2020, after suffering a serious knee injury when colliding with the post against Dundee United.

However, the Frenchman is now closing in on a return to first-team action, in what will be a huge boost for the Bhoys.

As quoted by Sky Sports, Postecoglou said: “He’s had a couple of little setbacks but we are hoping now that he’s at a point where he’s ready to train fully with the team and make himself available. He’ll be a great addition.”

As well as Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers have done, it really will be like a new signing to have Jullien back available for selection.

The towering 28-year-old was a key man for the Hoops before his serious injury, and made Celtic a real threat from set-pieces.

Jullien has scored ten goals in his 61 appearances for Celtic, which is a fine record indeed for a defender.

It’s not just his aerial prowess which makes him dangerous.

As seen in the League Cup final win over Rangers in 2019, Jullien is also good with his feet from set-pieces, timing his runs well to meet the ball.

Who should Christoper Jullien replace at Celtic?

Postecoglou has a big decision on his hands when Jullien regains full fitness.

As aforesaid, Starfelt and Carter-Vickers have done well in the Frenchman’s absence, but one must drop out if Celtic are to get him involved again.

Carter-Vickers has arguably enjoyed the better campaign so far, although it would be harsh to drop Starfelt as he’s still adapting to a new country.

In our view, having Jullien back opens the door for Postecoglou to explore more tactical avenues, such as a three-at-the-back system.

Whatever he decides, it’s a good problem for Postecoglou to have – you’d rather have too many options than not enough options.

For now, let’s see what the Celtic fans on Twitter have been saying about Jullien’s imminent return…
