Celtic will listen to offers for Albian Ajeti, Vasilis Barkas, Boli Bolingoli and possibly Ismaila Soro, as Ange Postecoglou looks to trim his Parkhead ranks in the January transfer window.
That’s according to the Daily Record, who report the Bhoys are open to deals for players on the Australian’s fringes. Postecoglou has now had seven-months to run the rule over those in Glasgow, and has not ruled out eying further deals to strengthen his wings and defence.
The Hoops have already added three players before the January sales start in Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi. Celtic announced their signings from J1-League sides Kawasaki Frontale, Yokohama F Marinos and Gamba Osaka respectively on Friday morning.
Ajeti, Barkas, Bolingoli and Soro may now contribute to Celtic’s efforts to balance the books in the January transfer window. The first three head the Hoop’s chopping block, while they may also consider Soro after the 23-year-old fell rapidly down Postecoglou’s pecking order.
Celtic to trim the fringes of Postecoglou’s plans in January transfer clear-out
Soro has made 17 appearances across all competitions this season, but has not featured in the Premiership since September. He also only started six of his outings so far this term.
Postecoglou gave the Ivorian his only Premiership start of the season on the opening day at Hearts, as well. Yet Soro has only sat on the bench for two of their last 13 league fixtures.
Postecoglou also only recalled Barkas to the Celtic net at St Johnstone after an outbreak of Covid-19 in his squad. The 27-year-old had not been involved in any of the Hoops’ prior 18 league games before Sunday. He had also only played once this season in all competitions.
Barkas’ future, therefore, already seemed set to be away from Celtic, a year after his £3m transfer from AEK Athens. The Athletic also reported last month that the Hoops would be shopping the Greek shot-stopper around in January, and could even accept a loan move.
Ajeti to follow fellow 2020 signing Barkas out of Parkhead in January
Ajeti may be another of Celtic’s 2020 signings to leave Parkhead with Barkas in the January transfer window. The forward moved to Glasgow from West Ham United for £4.5m late in the summer market last year. But the Swiss has failed to offer what the Bhoys wished for.
The 24-year-old scored five goals in his first six Premiership outings in green-and-white last season. Yet Ajeti has only managed to increase his Celtic record to nine goals in 48 games across all competitions since. He also only has three goals in 17 outings so far this term.
Celtic may struggle to find suitors willing to match what they paid West Ham to sell Ajeti. He is also still recovering from the serious hamstring injury sustained earlier this month.
