Speaking on The Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has claimed that Arsenal have a continued interest in Brighton full-back Tariq Lamptey.
The Gunners were linked with Lamptey around this point last year, but a move never came to fruition, with reports in the summer claiming that Edu believes Lamptey is simply too small.
However, Castles is led to believe that Arsenal are once again having a look at the Brighton ace, stating that the Seagulls would be happy to let him leave if their asking price was met.
What’s been said about Lamptey?
Castles shared what he knows.
“What you have here is Arsenal, who had an interest in Lamptey when he burst onto the scene before that difficult injury that you referred to. They are looking again to sign him and exploring the parameters of the deal. I think Lamptey is an exceptionally attacking full-back. The limitation on him is his height and I think, therefore, he needs to play in a defence that either uses wing-backs or uses the full-backs progressively,” Castles said.
“With Brighton, the policy of the club is that if they get offers from higher-status teams which are attractive to the players, they will not stand in the way of the move, assuming their asking price is met – and that’s what we saw with Ben White. They wanted £50m for White, Arsenal went through a series of offers before they got to that number, and you may be looking at the same scenario with Lamptey who is under contract until 2025. Brighton will be happy to have discussions as long as their pricetag for the player is achieved in the ultimate transaction.”

Youth revolution continues
Lamptey would be a brilliant addition to this young Arsenal side, he’s quick, he’s skilful and Graham Potter has described him as ‘amazing’ in the past.
However, perhaps the most interesting thing about Lamptey is his age.
The full-back seems to have been around for quite a while, but he only turned 21 a couple of months ago, and this would be yet another signifier of the direction Arsenal are going in.
The Gunners signed a number of talented young players in the summer, while Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe have also been given starring roles under Arteta.
Lamptey arriving would be yet another sign that the London club are heavily investing in youth.
This could be a cracking signing from the Gunners.
