Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has taken to Twitter to send a message to Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz, who is wanted at St James’ Park.

The rise of Brereton Diaz shows no sign of slowing down.

Another game, another goal for the striker as his second-half strike grabbed Blackburn a 2-1 win over Barnsley.

Now third in the Championship, Blackburn are riding the crest of a wave thanks to Brereton Diaz’s goals.

That’s 20 for the season now. Before this term, Brereton Diaz had only scored 17 league goals in his career.

Switching from English to Chilean has really worked well for Brereton Diaz, who just can’t stop scoring since changing his International allegiance.

The problem for Blackburn is that Brereton Diaz is of course attracting major interest.

Eurosport claimed in November that Newcastle want to sign Brereton Diaz, taking on a host of Premier League rivals.

Newcastle have big money to spend in January after their takeover, and Brereton Diaz could follow in the footsteps of Alan Shearer.

Shearer banged in the goals for Blackburn before heading to Newcastle.

With Newcastle now keen on Brereton Diaz, history could repeat itself.

Now, Shearer has taken to Twitter to send a five-word message to Brereton Diaz, simply saying ‘keep up your great work’.

Shearer could soon see Brereton Diaz in the famous black and white stripes – if Newcastle get their way.
