Netflix is set to release their new science fiction K-drama ‘The Silent Sea’ this week, but what is the series about, what time and date will it stream worldwide?
Whilst Netflix has seen outstanding success in 2021, most fans will recognise that it’s the Korean content on the platform that has grabbed the headlines.
From Squid Game and Move to Heaven, to Kingdom: Ashin of the North and most recently Hellbound, the Korean dramas that are being released by Netflix have been consistently outstanding.
This week, the streaming giant will premiere its final K-drama of the year, a science fiction thriller series called ‘The Silent Sea’.

What is The Silent Sea?
The Silent Sea is an upcoming Netflix Korean science fiction series, based on the short 2014 film by Choi Hang-yong called The Sea of Tranquillity – who is also directing the new K-drama.
The series is set in the future after Earth has been left uninhabitable from desertification with Humanity now colonising the various moons from our solar system.
The Silent Sea focuses on a special team on a mission to receive a mysterious sample from an abandoned research station on the moon, known as the Balhae Base.
“During a perilous 24-hour mission on the moon, space explorers try to retrieve samples from an abandoned research facility steeped in secrets.” – The Silent Sea synopsis, via Netflix.
Leading the group will be Yan Yoon-jae, the selfless exploration team leader, and Doctor Song Ji-an, an astrobiologist determined to uncover the truth behind the abandoned station.
They will be joined by the third main character Captain Ryoo Tae-seok, an engineer and a former elite member of the Ministry of National Defence who volunteered for the mission to escape bureaucracy.
