Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah is on West Ham United’s January wish list – and his hat-trick against Sunderland hasn’t changed his plans for the future.

The Daily Mail claim that West Ham are right in the mix for Nketiah alongside Brighton and Hove Albion and Crystal Palace.

Arsenal are desperate to keep hold of Nketiah but their attempts have so far failed.

Mikel Arteta has always been a fan of Nketiah, calling him ‘extraordinary’ last year but never really given him regular starts.

Nketiah took his chance against Sunderland in midweek, bagging a hat-trick in the 5-1 Carabao Cup win.

If Arsenal hoped Nketiah would change his mind after that performance, then it sadly isn’t going to happen.

Nketiah still wants to leave Arsenal, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

West Ham could sign Nketiah

It’s suggested that Nketiah is wanted at West Ham in a cut-price deal given Nketiah’s contract situation.

West Ham face competition for that deal, but you can understand their interest in Nketiah.

Michail Antonio needs support in the West Ham attack and David Moyes doesn’t have any other recognised senior strikers.

Nketiah, 22, ultimately needs playing time. West Ham can offer a greater role than Arsenal, but he would still have to battle with Antonio.

That’s not a guaranteed path to starting week in and week out, but West Ham represent an exciting option for Nketiah.
