Newcastle United lost 4-0 to Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, but have received a slice of praise from City defender Ruben Dias.

Newcastle barely stood a chance against Manchester City

Eddie Howe is still trying to figure out the right formula for Newcastle, so a meeting with Pep Guardiola’s City side seemed like a nightmare.

Sure enough, dire defending allowed Dias to open the scoring before Newcastle backed off and backed off, allowing Joao Cancelo to smash in number two.

Riyad Mahrez volleyed in number three before Raheem Sterling rounded off the scoring with a fourth.

Maybe Newcastle should have had a first-half penalty, but probably wouldn’t have changed the game.

City are just too good and Newcastle are lacking in quality. 4-0 was a fair result, even if Newcastle showed some fight.

Dias praises Newcastle

Newcastle fans are just hoping for major January additions; Howe will need them in order to keep the Magpies up.

There have been glimmers of hope under Howe, and City defender Dias was complimentary of the Magpies.

£65million defender Dias took to Twitter to call Newcastle a ‘tough team’, appreciating the battle he and has teammates were in at St James’ Park.

Whilst Dias is focusing on a title race, Newcastle just want to stay up – and some kind words from City players may just give them a little more belief.
