Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has told Football London that the performance of Harry Winks in training has really impressed him.
Catching the eye
Winks was given a rare start for Tottenham against Liverpool yesterday, and he put in a really impressive performance during the contest.
The midfielder was aggressive with his tackling, but also showed off an excellent passing range.
Winks’s first-team chances have increased due to the fitness issues that the club have been suffering with at the moment.
But his performances in training ensured that he was called up by Conte yesterday.
“I think a good performance, but I didn’t have doubts about this. Harry Winks is working very hard. He impressed me in training sessions for his commitment, his will, his desire. I think he’s a really good player,” Conte said.
“When we play in this way, with this formation, with a number four in front of the three central defenders, I think he’s very, very good. Very good.”
Changing fortunes?
Winks played a major part in helping Tottenham score their first goal.
He snapped into a tackle on Naby Keita, which turned possession over and allowed Tanguy Ndombele to slip Harry Kane through on goal.
Winks is currently playing for his Tottenham future right now, with speculation increasing that he could leave in January.
The Telegraph report that Winks could be up for sale, after a spell of poor form.
But if he continues to perform to the standards that he put in yesterday then that policy may just have to be reconsidered ahead of next month.
