Sky Sports commentator Gary Weaver said on Sky Sports Premier League (6:53pm, December 18, 2021) what he noticed Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta telling Gabriel Martinelli against Leeds United at Elland Road.

Martinelli scored twice for Arsenal in the 4-1 win against Leeds away from home at Elland Road in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Weaver was on commentary duty for the match on Sky Sports, and he made an observation about what Arteta was saying to the Brazilian forward in the second half.

What Mikel Arteta said to Gabriel Martinelli

The Sky Sports commentator said in the 64th minute: “It’s interesting with Martinelli. Mikel Arteta told him just to slow it down at times, get some gears to your game.”

Very encouraging

In our opinion, it is a very good and interesting observation that tells a lot about Arteta.

It seems that Arteta was coaching Martinelli during the match against Leeds.

That is very encouraging indeed.

The Arsenal manager knows that Martinelli is still very young and lacks experience.

So, the 20-year-old needs guidance during games, and Arteta was clearly giving him that.

Martinelli is a naturally gifted footballer, but like all young players, he needs guidance, help and structure during games.

It seems that Arteta was giving him just that against Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday.

Things are looking up for Arsenal.
