Gary Neville stated that Jurgen Klopp was ‘right’ in saying that Harry Kane should have been sent off during Tottenham’s 2-2 draw against ten-man Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

During his commentary stint on Sky Sports, Neville made it clear that Kane was a ‘lucky boy’ for his studs-up tackle on Liverpool left-back, Andy Robertson, who was eventually sent off in the second half.

In the first half, Kane went charging in on Robertson, as he tried to win a 60-40 ish ball in the Liverpool player’s favour.

Kane ended up catching the Liverpool man on the shin and the on-field referee didn’t hesitate to show him a yellow card for his actions.

The incident happened straight in front of the Liverpool and Spurs dugouts and Klopp was annoyed by what he had seen.

Neville shared how Klopp wanted Kane to receive ‘more’ than just the yellow, and after seeing the tackle at second viewing, he agreed with the German.

“It was a desperate lunge by Harry Kane,” said Neville. “Jurgen Klopp wants more. Spurs players want less.

“They are saying ‘it’s a great challenge’. Jurgen Klopp is saying ‘it’s a bad one’. As Harry Kane is running over, you are thinking ‘is he going to lung here?’ He does.

“I don’t think it’s clever. I think he could be in trouble here, Harry Kane. I think Jurgen Klopp is right.

“I just think lunging, with the studs going right in on the shin of Robertson, you are asking for massive trouble. He’s a lucky boy, Harry Kane.”

Liverpool fans won’t be a happy bunch by the decisions from both the referee – Paul Tierney – and VAR because some will feel, if Robertson deserves a red then so does Kane.

It was ironic that it was Robertson who was on the end of a bad tackle from Kane, yet it was him been given his marching orders after he had put his team ahead.

It was a pulsating game in north London and one of the games of the season between Liverpool and Spurs.

Given that Antonio Conte’s side had been out-of-action for two weeks, they showcased that the rest they have had paid off because they were aggressive and in the faces of Liverpool throughout the game.
