The extremely popular manga series ‘Spy x Family’ is finally getting an anime next year, with the release date confirmed in the recent trailer!
One of the biggest and most popular manga series to never receive an anime adaptation was Tatsuya Endo’s ‘Spy x Family’…until now.
However, in order to accomplish his espionage mission, he marries an assassin named Yor and adopts a young child called Anya who can read minds.
Over the Halloween weekend, it was revealed that the hit Spy x Family series would arrive on television networks around the world, alongside confirmation of the production staff and cast.
Today, at the 2022 Jump Festa Event in Japan, a new teaser trailer was shared which included the release date for the Spy x Family anime adaptation!
When will the Spy x Family anime release?
In November 2021, the official press release for the Spy x Family anime adaptation shared that the series would release in 2022.
Today, Spy x Family was the first major panel to go live on Day One of the Jump Festa 2022 event in Japan.
Not only did the production team share a new PV trailer for the series, but confirmed the anime would premiere on the Spring broadcasting slate in April 2022.
Unfortunately, a specific release date was not revealed, but fans should expect the series to premiere in the first two weeks of April 2022.
At the time of writing, the associated international streaming platform has not been shared, but fans should expect the series to be simulcast on either Crunchyroll or Funimation, who both reported on the recent announcement.
The first cast member confirmed…
The first voice actor to be cast in the Spy x Family is for the leading role of Loid Forger, Takuya Eguchi.
Eguchi is a veteran of the anime industry, who made his debut in 2008 in the Golgo 13 series. The 34-year-old has since created a stellar career with notable roles in Sword Art Online (Ducker), Haikyu (Yuuji Terushima), KonoSuba (Kyoya Mitsurugi), That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Soei), Given (Akihiko Kaji), Fruits Basket (Kakeru Manabe) and Tokyo Revengers (Shuji Hanma).
Other works include Eden of the East (Satoshi Osugi), Kuroko’s Basketball (Shinji Koganei), My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU (Hachiman Hikigaya) and Baki (Kaoru Hanayama).
Alongside Eguchi will be Atsumi Tanezaki as Anya Forger, who fans may recognise as Mujika from The Promised Neverland, Vivy from Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song, Nikki from Dr Stone and Juno from Beastars.
Making up the family will be Saori Hayami as Yor Forger, known for playing Yamato in One Piece, Emma from Tsukimichi and Maria from My Next Life as a Villainess.
Production staff revealed…
Alongside the news of an anime adaptation, details on the production staff behind the Spy x Family television series were also revealed.
The series will be a co-production between WIT Studios (Attack on Titan seasons 1-3, Vinland Saga, Great Pretender) and CloverWorks (Darling in the Franxx, The Promised Neverland, Fairy Tail) animation companies.
The Spy x Family anime will be directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi, whose previous works include Rurouni Kenshin, Hunter x Hunter and Dororo.
In charge of character designs is Kazuaki Shimada, with notable roles in the production of The Promised Neverland, A Lull in the Sea and Encouragement of Climb.
Music for the series will be produced by (K) NoW_NAME.
