West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Athletic revealed that Newcastle have hired Nick Hammond to help with recruitment in January.
What’s the story?
Well, according to The Athletic, Newcastle have turned to the 54-year-old to help them on a temporary basis.
Having struggled to appoint a Director of Football, Amanda Staveley has opted for a short-term fix, although it’s one that West Brom fans are warning the Toon Army about.
Hammond used to work as Technical Director at West Brom – the Baggies suffered relegation to the Championship with him at the Hawthorns.
He was responsible for hiring Alan Pardew, which was a woeful appointment.
Hammond also spent £15m on Oliver Burke, who scored one goal for West Brom in 24 appearances.
As a result, Newcastle fans have every right to be concerned about this appointment.
Newcastle must not let Nick Hammond have too much influence

If he’s only a short-term option, then Newcastle mustn’t allow Hammond to dominate their transfer strategy next month.
The Athletic believe Staveley, Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Jamie Reuben has been working tirelessly on transfer plans, so they must have some vision in mind.
Therefore, Hammond should only be used for his contacts in January, as well as his negotiating skills.

Giving him too much influence, only to wave him goodbye soon, could lead to a disjointed transfer approach.
If Newcastle give him too much power, they could be left with an Oliver Burke of their own, which is the last thing Eddie Howe needs.
For now, let’s see what the West Brom fans on Twitter have been saying about Hammond…
