Speaking to Off The Ball, Phil Thompson has been speaking about Liverpool’s in-form attacker Diogo Jota and his future.

The former Wolves ace has been incredible as of late. He’s one of the top scorers in the Premier League and he’s in scintillating form.

However, despite his recent incredible run for Liverpool, the host on Off The Ball has suggested that he may well look to move elsewhere to find a club where he’ll be the undisputed first-choice and the main man.

Luckily, Thompson thinks that this is something Liverpool supporters needn’t worry about.

What’s been said about Jota?

Thompson says that Jota won’t leave Liverpool, claiming that he’s the heir to the throne of the Reds’ famous front three.

“It’s a good debate, it’s something Liverpool fans shouldn’t worry about. I don’t know if you’re trying to say he’ll try to go to pastures new if he’s not playing, I think he’s more than happy. You have Sadio, you have Mo and you have Bobby, they’re all near their 30s, and he’s the changing of the guard. I think Diogo is more than happy there, and his performances have been excellent,” Thompson said.

Why would he leave?

Thompson is absolutely right about Jota, why would he leave Liverpool?

Yes, he has to rotate with Roberto Firmino, and yes, Mohamed Salah gets most of the plaudits, but he’s playing in a system that suits him and he’s scored bags of goals.

Let’s not forget, Jota wasn’t a superstar before Liverpool signed him. He was a decent winger at Wolves, but he’d never hit double figures in the Premier League in terms of goals.

Now though, he’s on track for 20 goals in the league this term, and there’s no reason for him to even think about playing elsewhere.
