Newcastle United supporters on Twitter are reacting to news about Manchester United’s postponed fixture.
The Premier League announced on Thursday that the Red Devils’ clash with Brighton & Hove Albion has been shelved due to a coronavirus outbreak.
And where Newcastle figure into this is, the Magpies’ host Ralf Rangnick’s outfit on December 27.
But Manchester United will go into that one with a 16-day break after their visit of Brentford was also cancelled earlier this week.
Meanwhile, the Tyneside outfit will have faced Leicester City, Liverpool and Manchester City – if Sunday’s content goes ahead as scheduled – since the Old Trafford club last played a game.
And suffice to say that a handful of Newcastle supporters feels that the postponed Seagulls outing puts them at a disadvantage for when Monday week comes around.
What Newcastle supporters are arguing has some merit.
However, the reverse could also prove to be true – and for the exact same reason.
Sixteen days without a game is quite a long time and there’s only so much you can do in training to simulate the environment and intensity of a genuine clash.
There’s no denying that with a hiatus of over a fortnight, Rangnick’s players will be fresher, but Newcastle’s could potentially be fitter and that factor is possibly massive.
Even still, the Magpies will be considered major underdogs to pick up a victory.
That is because Newcastle – who have shipped seven goals in their last two outings – have managed just one Premier League victory all season – and even that was a narrow win over Burnley at home.
Howe’s players have it all to do against Manchester United in 10 days and only time will tell what sort of affect the postponed fixtures have had on the latter.
