Inter Milan are reportedly set to terminate the contract of former Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen, and Spurs fans want the Dane back as a coach.
According to BBC Sport, the Italian giants are making steps to release the Danish midfielder after having an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) inserted onto his heart, something which is not allowed in Serie A under Italian legislation.
Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest for Denmark at Euro 2020 has not played a minute of professional football since. And although the midfielder has since returned to training with boyhood club Odense Boldklub in his homeland as per BBC Sport, his professional career hangs in the balance.
Indeed, all signs point to Eriksen retiring early from football given the severe nature of what happened over the summer, with Inter likely to release the 29-year-old at some point in the coming weeks.
With the Danish midfielder’s career uncertain, Tottenham fans on social media are eager for Eriksen to return to the club once he leaves Inter, even on a coaching basis.
The former Ajax star is one of the best players to ever play for Spurs in the Premier League era. Eriksen was one of the cornerstones of Mauricio Pochettino’s system, with the midfielder playing a key role in guiding the north London side to the 2019 UEFA Champions League football.
Whilst it would be miraculous and sensational if Eriksen was to return to the pitch as a player, his release from Inter will likely signal the end of his playing days. Yet for Spurs fans, they still want the Dane back.

After all, the midfielder could be a great mentor to many of the promising talents coming through at Spurs. And Eriksen could realistically make the leap into coaching for Tottenham if he is to be released by Inter.
