St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson paid tribute to the ‘superb’ Alfredo Morelos following their 2-0 Scottish Premiership defeat away to Rangers on Wednesday, speaking to The Herald.
It was the sort of strike those in the business tend to refer to as a ‘proper goalscorers goal’.
Drifting instinctively to the back post, Morelos somehow managed to find space in a crowded penalty area before headed home following a Connor Goldson flick-on.
He tends to blow hot and cold but, right now, the Colombian frontman is nigh-on scorching.
Not content with scoring a fifth goal in his last six games, Morelos then turned provider, setting up Ryan Kent’s second-half decider following a trademark burst of acceleration and perfectly-weighted pass.
Is Alfredo Morelos firing Rangers to another league title?
“I don’t want to talk about other players in opposition teams but I thought Morelos was superb,” Davidson admitted.
“When the ball came to him it stuck and he linked it, it was dead simple. When he wasn’t sure, he just played a safe pass.
“It was really good forward play.”
Last night was Morelos at his brilliant, bullish best. El Buffalo in a china shop.
He’s more than just a goalscorer; Rangers’ most prolific centre-forward since the legendary Ally McCoist was unplayable against St Johnstone, displaying the intelligence, the movement and the effortless link-play that keeps opposition defenders up at night.

That 43rd-minute opener was merely the glacier cherry on top of a very tasty cake.
Rangers have now won five out of six games since hiring Giovanni van Bronckhorst as Steven Gerrard’s replacement in November.
The Gers maintained their four-point lead over Old Firm rivals Celtic at the top of the Premiership table.
Davidson, interestingly, was linked with the Rangers job too before Van Bronckhorst’s return to Glasgow.
A penny for his thoughts as bottom-of-the-table St Johnstone suffered a fourth straight defeat on the banks of the Clyde.
