West Ham United manager David Moyes has tipped out-of-form Michail Antonio for a major resurgence, claiming he has witnessed promising signs from the attacker.
Antonio is a massive player for the Hammers and there’s no coincidence that once he stopped scoring regularly, Moyes’s side endured a substantial dip in form.
The West Ham attacker, who cost £7 million after joining from Nottingham Forest in 2015, hasn’t found the net in a Premier League contest since October 24.
During that time, the East Londoners have won only three Premier League outings.
However, the Scottish manager, whose players take on Arsenal tonight, has told Football London that he’s seen very positive indications that Antonio is discovering his talismanic powerful form again.
Moyes said: “When his form’s good, I think the team plays much better. His all-round form is really important to how we play, but I’ve seen signs it’s just beginning to click a little with him again, so hopefully we’re not too far away.”
January window
After Moyes’s comments, it wouldn’t be a massive surprise if signing a new striker was on his shopping list for the upcoming January transfer window.
As brilliant as Antonio is, the man is also turning 32 in three months and failing to bolster his striking options next month could be considered a tad negligible by Moyes.
Honestly, signing a player for any position during the winter is often a difficult task, let alone a centre-forward, but we’ve seen how hit-and-miss West Ham are without a reliable goalscorer up front and that’s enough to make Moyes desperate to add one.
