Aston Villa striker Wesley Moraes has indicated that he would be open to a return to Brazilian football, telling Globo Esporte that he is ‘happy’ with Palmeiras’ interest.
A lot has happened at Villa Park since Wesley last started a Premier League game nearly two years ago.
Dean Smith was still the manager, for one.
Frederic Guilbert, James Chester, Neil Taylor and Jonathan Kodjia, meanwhile, joined the Brazil international as part of the matchday squad for that New Years’ Day trip to Turf Moor.
Wesley, of course, suffered a horrific knee injury during Aston Villa’s 2-1 win in Lancashire. He would only return 15 long months later.
The 25-year-old is now rebuilding his fitness on loan at former employers Club Brugge. His future beyond this season remains shrouded in doubt, however, with Steven Gerrard now at the helm and Smith long since gone.

“I do not rule out returning to Brazil at this time,” Wesley said.
Copa Libertadores champions Palmeiras are rumoured to be interested.
“Even more so if I am going to play for a team that will fight for titles, which has a very good structure and a very high-level squad.
“I try to focus on the field work and leave negotiations (over transfers) with my agents. They lead and tell me what is really important at the time they think it’s important.
“I am very happy (with Palmeiras’ interest). It is a sign that my work is being recognized by a great football club. This gives me even more courage to continue working.”
With Club Brugge unwilling to risk a flare up of Wesley’s fitness issues, the 6ft 4ins targetman has been limited to just three Jupiler League appearances since returning to Belgium during the summer transfer window.
Once Aston Villa’s £22 million record signing, Wesley has another three years on his contract with the Premier League club.
