Burnley are ramping up their efforts to keep defender Ben Mee out of Newcastle United’s clutches as Eddie Howe chases a reunion.
Burnley want to keep Mee
The Daily Mail claim that Burnley are now stepping up their attempts to give Mee a new deal.
Mee is out of contract at the end of the season, and this report claims that there is an option of another year.
Burnley don’t just want to activate that though – they want to appease their captain by giving him improved terms.
Talks are scheduled for this week, with Mee’s future believed to be a two priority at Turf Moor.
Mee is approaching 10 years as a permanent Burnley player having joined from Manchester City in 2012.
The man who sanctioned that permanent deal for Howe? Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe…

Newcastle keen on pinching Clarets captain
Howe was in charge of Burnley at the times and is a big fan of Mee. It’s therefore no surprise to see Mee being linked with Newcastle.
The Mirror claim that Newcastle are willing to double Mee’s wages in order to make the move to St James’ Park.
Newcastle need some leadership at the back and 32-year-old Mee can absolutely provide that.
Burnley understandably have no interest in selling Mee in January, but Newcastle will come calling with big cash.
Those talks this week could shape Mee’s future, with Howe keen to reunite with the defender at Newcastle and Burnley desperate to keep him in a real tug of war.
