Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City were in the draw for the last-16 of the Champions League on Monday morning.

The standout tie was Manchester United against PSG, whilst Liverpool were drawn against Salzburg, Chelsea against Lille and Manchester City pitted with Villarreal.

But ex-Liverpool midfielder, Danny Murphy, has called for the Champions League last-16 draw to be ‘re-done’ after the farce involving Manchester United’s pot, as he told talkSPORT.

The controversy stems from Manchester United seemingly being excluded from the pot of teams that were eligible to face Atletico Madrid – the La Liga giants were eventually drawn with Bayern Munich.

Ex-Arsenal man Andrey Arshavin was the former player pulling the teams out and he initially plucked Ralf Rangnick’s men against Villarreal.

But, of course, that wasn’t possible because they met during the group stages, and therefore, couldn’t meet during the last-16 stages.

This is what former UEFA Cup winner, Murphy, made of it all:

“Manchester United will want it re-done,” said Murphy.

Presenter Sam Matterface then added: “I am just watching a replay of that draw. It definitely looks like Manchester United’s ball is in the second pot, on the right, back row and was not included in the Atletico Madrid draw. That is a problem isn’t?”

Murphy then responded: “Then it has to be re-done then, doesn’t it? Simple as that. It has to be re-done.

“But I don’t understand why they didn’t just start again?”

UPDATE ON CHAMPIONS LEAGUE LAST-16 DRAW

Well, there will now be a re-draw for this season’s last-16 Champions League ties after the above games were void, as reported by Sky Sports.

The possible last dance between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo might not happen after all.

Unless, of course, they are pitted against one another again. And, to be fair, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they are given the mess of it all.
