Liverpool central defender Virgil van Dijk has told BBC Sport that his side should have played better after scoring against Aston Villa at Anfield at the weekend.

Mohamed Salah scored from the penalty spot for Liverpool in their 1-0 win against Villa at Anfield in the Premier League.

Van Dijk, who earns £220,000 per week as salary (Spotrac), believes that the Liverpool players should have played better after going 1-0 up.

Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk not happy

Van Dijk said: “It’s always a good feeling when it hits the back of the net. I think we should have done better even after getting the goal to keep the ball and play through them. We didn’t do it too well. But it’s 1-0 and a clean sheet so we can’t be too hard on ourselves.”

What a mentality!

Liverpool were the better team against Villa and deserved picked up all three points.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s side could have done better, and Van Dijk knows that.

In our opinion, Van Dijk’s critical comments show the mentality of the Liverpool defender and the rest of his teammates.

Liverpool were not at their best against Villa, and Van Dijk knows that.

The Netherlands international central defender’s comments show that the Liverpool players want to play well all the time.

It must be great for Liverpool fans to have such a mentality among the players.

It is this thirst for perfection and demand to do well in each and every game that could see Liverpool win the Premier League and the Champions League this season.
