Max Verstappen is the new F1 champion after a dramatic finish in Abu Dhabi today – and Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is buzzing.

Verstappen clinches controversial F1 win over Hamilton

Red Bull’s Verstappen went into today’s race on pole position, but Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton quickly took first place early into the race.

Hamilton was leading right until final stages until controversy struck.

Nicholas Latifi crashed out, forcing a safety car. Overtaking wasn’t allowed, meaning it looked like Hamilton would coast home.

Race director Michael Masi then allowed overtaking for the final lap, and Verstappen was able to pip Hamilton in a last-gasp win.

Mercedes are understandably fuming, but for Verstappen, Christian Horner and all at Red Bull Racing, it’s party time.

Liverpool star Van Dijk celebrates

Liverpool defender Van Dijk had already nailed his colours to the Verstappen mast.

Supporting his fellow Dutchman is no great shock, with Van Dijk now buzzing.

Van Dijk took to Twitter to tweet just three words – ‘what a boss’ whilst tagging Verstappen.

Many aren’t happy with the controversial nature of Verstappen’s win, but Van Dijk and many in the Netherlands won’t be bothered right now.
