Speaking on talkSPORT’s YouTube channel, Gabriel Agbonlahor has been naming his all-time Premier League XI, and Aston Villa’s Ashley Young has made the cut.
Agbonlahor was tasked with creating an ultimate XI of players from Premier League history, but there was a catch, he could only use one player from any team.
Inevitably, the Villa legend picked a player from his former club, and while he could have gone for the likes of Jack Grealish, James Milner, Paul McGrath or even Dwight Yorke, he actually chose someone from the current team.
Indeed, Agbonlahor put Ashley Young into his midfield.
What’s been said about Young?
Agbonlahor chose Young alongside Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and former Everton man Gareth Barry in his midfield.
“As a number 10 I have a player I played with a lot, an amazing, talented player, Ashley Young. It’s not Grealish. For what he’s done in the game, that’s my Villa man. He’s won the league with United, a Scudetto in Italy with Milan and he’s still playing now at 36,” Agbonlahor said.
Good choice
Ashley Young wouldn’t be in most Premier League all-time XIs, but when you can only pick one player per club, he does come into the equation.
It feels like a long time ago now, but we mustn’t forget just how good Young was in his first stint with Villa.
He played mostly on the left, so it’s a bit strange to see Agbonlahor pick him as a number 10 here, but we’re sure he’d be able to do a brilliant job in a more central role.
