Plenty of Everton fans are buzzing after their club shared images on Twitter of star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin back in training.

Calvert-Lewin scored 21 goals across all competitions last season and bagged three in three in the Premier League at the start of this campaign, before fracturing his toe and picking up a quadriceps injury.

In his absence, the Toffees have lacked an out-and-out goalscorer.

In fact, despite missing their last 13 matches in all competitions, the England international is only two goals behind joint-top scorers Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray.

Relative struggles in front of goal and even bigger issues at the back ensure that Rafa Benitez’s side currently sit 13th in the table ahead of a busy run of fixtures.

Therefore, it’s a big boost that DCL is on the grass and working up his fitness.

Everton tweeted three images of him at Finch Farm on Friday and captioned it “Back out on the pitch doing individual training”, followed by muscle and hourglass emojis.

Given that he’s training away from the main group, it’s clear that a return to Premier League action isn’t imminent for Calvert-Lewin.

However, this is a big step in the right direction for a player who is key to Everton’s hopes of climbing up the table during the second half of the season.

When he does come back into the side, he has the ability to go on the kind of run that would lift the whole club and given how open the Premier League is this season, it wouldn’t take a record-breaking win streak to make the Toffees’ situation a whole lot rosier.

They are currently only a couple of points outside the top half and six behind sixth-placed Man United.

Therefore, it’s no wonder that the sight of Calvert-Lewin on the move at Finch Farm has more than a few fans excited.

In other news, Man City have scouted a 16-year-old who’s already playing senior football, two other PL clubs also linked.
