Burnley star Maxwel Cornet has an ‘outside chance’ of being fit for their crunch Premier League clash with West Ham on Sunday, according to Sean Dyche.

Cornet has been outstanding since he arrived at Turf Moor from Lyon for a reported fee of £12.9m in late August.

He’s scored five goals in just nine Premier League appearances, including a brilliant volley against Leicester.

Therefore, when he was forced off in the 32nd minute of a defeat at Newcastle last weekend, Burnley fans were concerned about potentially being without him for a considerable period.

However, Dyche confirmed on Friday that that won’t be the case.

It’s a major boost for the Clarets that they won’t be without the Ivory Coast international for the busy festive period.

However, that’s not all, as there’s a chance that he might not miss any matches, with Dyche stopping short of ruling him out of Sunday’s clash with West Ham.

“We are waiting to see on Maxwel, an outside chance I would say,” said the manager, as quoted by the Burnley Express.

There was also some positive news regarding skipper Ben Mee.

“Ben Mee’s shoulder is settling down but we will make a call on that tomorrow,” he added.

Possible big Cornet boost for Burnley vs West Ham

It’s been a tough start to the season for Burnley, with struggles at both ends of the pitch leaving them in the relegation zone on just ten points.

They’re only three behind 17th-placed Watford, though, so it’s not time to panic just yet, particularly now that it’s clear Cornet won’t be on the sidelines for long.

The versatile 25-year-old attacker adds real quality to the starting XI and is a key goal threat for Sean Dyche.

West Ham have largely been excellent this season, so a win is a big ask for a Clarets side that’s short on confidence.

But their chances of getting a positive result at Turf Moor will be greatly increased if Cornet is passed fit.

In other news, two West Ham stars and a Celtic player have made a Europa League group stage best XI.
