Everton scout Gretar Steinsson has decided to quit his role with the club in light of Marcel Brands’ departure earlier this week.
The Liverpool Echo report that Steinsson has decided to walk away from Everton – and he isn’t alone.
Dan Purdy – Everton’s Manager of Scouting and Operations – has also chosen to leave Everton.
Steinsson is the more high-profile departure having been Everton’s chief European scout whilst also eyeing up players in England’s lower leagues.
The former Bolton Wanderers defender goes way back with Brands.
Brands was AZ Alkmaar’s director of football when Steinsson joined the Dutch club from Young Boys in 2006.
Steinsson re-joined AZ in an off-field role after his retirement before becoming Fleetwood Town’s technical director in 2015.
Just months into Brands’ time at Everton, Steinsson unsurprisingly joined him in an important scouting role.

With Brands announcing his departure from Everton earlier this week, it’s no shock that Steinsson is following him out of Goodison Park.
This triple exit leaves Everton a little short in their recruitment department ahead of a key January transfer window.
Maybe we will see Brands and Steinsson reunite at another club in the future, but Everton simply need to figure out their new direction and replace some of these outgoings.
