Jamie Carragher has shared his classy gesture when Tyler Morton was named in Liverpool’s starting XI for their Champions League win at AC Milan on Tuesday night, as he told CBS Sports (07/12/21 at 10:00 pm).
The Liverpool legend stated that he text Morton’s Dad about being named on the teamsheet, before the match, and then got a response by saying they ‘can’t believe it’ after he shone on the San Siro stage.
Despite still being a teenager, Morton produced a top-quality display against the Serie A leaders, in a historic stadium and in the best club competition in the world.
It’s a huge credit to Jurgen Klopp for providing such a chance to the academy star and then the player responding by putting in such a strong display.
Carragher felt he was ‘outstanding’ on the night, as he shared the text messages he exchanged with his father.
“I text him before the game, brilliant when I saw the teamsheet,” said Carragher.
“When he came on, ‘delighted for you and the family… (Dad’s response) ‘Can’t believe it. Wow. Thank You’, so that’s his dad.
“My son was at Liverpool, they go in really young now at the age of 6. So, I have watched that group of players.
“They are at that age now, 18 or 19, they have to either make their name in the game. But I thought Tyler Morton was outstanding.”

For Morton, now it’s about trying to break into the Liverpool team on the Premier League stage and earn more minutes.
Even though he is out injured, Harvey Elliott has proved that age is just a number because Klopp was giving him regular minutes before his knee injury.
Then there is also Curtis Jones, who has become a regular member of the Liverpool squad during the past few seasons.
Morton has showcased enough that he should be the next one to stand up from the club’s academy, just like Jones.
