According to AS, Newcastle have made contact with Gini Wijnaldum in regards to a return to St James’ Park, and he seems interested.

What’s the story?

Well, the Spanish news outlet believe Newcastle have made contact with the £180,000-a-week man’s representatives about a return to Tyneside.

AS claim that Wijnaldum – who only joined Paris Saint-Germain in June – is keen to leave France, and is interested in a return to the Premier League.

It is also said that the Magpies are the first team to show interest in the Dutchman, who was signed by Steve McClaren back in 2015.

So far this season, Wijnaldum has endured a tough start to life in Paris.

The 31-year-old has made 14 appearances in Ligue 1, with half of those coming as a substitute.

AS believe Wijnaldum regrets his move to the Parc des Princes.

At the moment, Eddie Howe doesn’t really have a player like Wijnaldum in his squad.

The Netherlands international is a gem of a footballer, one who is able to make late runs into the box and score goals, or act as a deep lying playmaker who can control games.

In his one season at Newcastle, Wijnaldum impressively scored 11 Premier League goals as he was used further forward.

However, in 237 games for Liverpool, he only scored 22 goals as Jürgen Klopp preferred to use him deeper – nevertheless, he still shone, and won the Premier League as well as the Champions League.

Evidently, Wijnaldum is the full package in midfield, and he would enrich Howe’s squad greatly as Newcastle aim to stay in the Premier League.
