Manchester City wrapped up their UEFA Champions League group with a disappointing 2-1 loss to RB Leipzig, yet the scoreline could have been worse had it not been for Zack Steffen.
The American international, who joined the club in 2018 for a fee of £7m according to BBC Sport, was selected by Pep Guardiola as Ederson Moraes was given the night off. And the former Columbus Crew star impressed against the Bundesliga side.
Steffen made a series of impressive saves. And although the keeper was beaten twice, the defence was largely to blame for these goals, with Kyle Walker having one of his worst matches ever in a City shirt.
The result did little to change City’s final group placing, though, as the Manchester giants were confirmed group winners before a ball had even been kicked in Leipzig.
Whilst the performance on the night was disappointing, Steffen was a shining light for City, with the 26-year-old shot-stopper making save after save to keep Guardiola’s side in the fixture.
Ederson’s back-up has been solid whenever called-upon for City. And last night was no exception for Steffen, with fans on social media left very impressed with the goalkeeper.
City fans laud Steffen after UCL performance

Indeed, the American has established himself as a fine number two for City, and supporters were happy with Steffen’s performance despite failing to keep a clean sheet in what was ultimately a match of little importance for the club.
Here’s what some City fans had to say on Twitter about Steffen’s performance against Leipzig…
