Manchester City face RB Leipzig tonight in what is essentially a friendly for Pep Guardiola’s side, with the reigning Premier League champions top of their UEFA Champions League group regardless of results.

The Cityzens head to east Germany tonight four points clear of PSG in second, meaning we could see some new faces in the Manchester giants’ XI this evening to face the Bundesliga side.

Indeed, the Daily Mail report that a number of academy players will feature tonight, with Cole Palmer, James McAtee and Liam Delap all in contention to start against Leipzig for City.

Yet whilst it will be a memorable night for some youngsters in their City careers, Guardiola was asked an interesting question in yesterday’s pre-match press conference about Leipzig.

City have recently been linked with Spanish midfielder Dani Olmo, and Guardiola was asked if there was any truth to the reports. And surprisingly, the Catalan coach gave a definitive answer.

Guardiola said when asked about Olmo via the Manchester Evening News: “The answer is no. He is a Leipzig player. If we had an interest, I’m sure City will contact Leipzig. Saying that he is a fantastic, fantastic player.”

Indeed, it was a bold question to ask Guardiola. However, the City boss surprised many by giving a straight answer on the Leipzig star, yet fans on social media are surprised the Premier League manager was asked something so direct.

Olmo on paper is a player who would suit Guardiola’s system to a tee. The midfielder can play in numerous positions, and supporters couldn’t believe that the City boss was asked about the Spanish international.
