Robbie Savage has stated that Rangers must be a ‘bigger club’ than Leeds if the Scottish side are deemed bigger than Aston Villa, as he told 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

A football fan, who supports both Leeds and Rangers, rang up BBC’s 606 programme and claimed that the Gers are bigger than Aston Villa.

All of this talk started when Steven Gerrard decided to swap the hot seat at Ibrox for the one at Villa Park last month.

There was a lot of debates as to who is bigger and what is the bigger job between the 55-time Scottish Premiership winners and the former European Cup champions.

But following that supporter’s comments, Savage then stated that it’s logical that Rangers are also bigger than those in Yorkshire.

“You just said that Rangers are a much bigger club than Aston Villa,” said Savage. “Then that means they are a bigger club than Leeds.

“On that basis, they are a bigger club than Leeds because they have won 55 titles.”

Leeds have a rich and proud history in England’s top-flight, although, the last 15 years or so haven’t been pleasant for them.

They slipped as low down as England’s third-tier, as financial trouble saw them relegated at the start of the century and then just continue to spiral out of control.

At the start of the recently concluded decade, Rangers went through their own money troubles, including going down right to the bottom of Scottish football.

But just like Leeds, they have since made their way back up and have started to roar again, including stopping Celtic’s ten under the stewardship of Gerrard last season.
