Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted to comments from Ajax boss Eric ten Hag that they will ‘investigate’ the possibility of signing Steven Bergwijn.

The Ajax boss stated that ‘we investigate everything’ when directly responding to suggestions about whether they will look at Bergwijn’s situation at Spurs, as he told De Telegraaf.

“Of course, we are always looking,” said ten Hag. “But it has to be the right choice. Just like with Sebastien Haller last year. If a good opportunity arises, we will not fail to do it.

“I may repeat myself, but we want to improve. If there is an option for that, we will investigate it. Whether we also investigate Bergwijn’s situation? We investigate everything. We are professionals.

“I can’t promise anyone a starting place. (But) Do you want to take up the challenge? Do you want to get better? Do you want to have fun playing football, because we play in a certain way. If you can excel with us, you can also achieve personal goals.”

Tottenham fans would seemingly be happy to see Bergwijn leave in January given ten Hag’s comments.

Given that one of Europe’s elite coaches has name-checked the former PSV Eindhoven is a pretty big thing.

Simply put, it hasn’t worked out for Bergwijn, since his big-money move two years ago when Jose Mourinho was in charge, and the fact that he only scored one goal last season says it all.

Albeit he has suffered injuries during this campaign, he is yet to get off the mark this season as well.

And even though Antonio Conte has been in the Tottenham dugout for a small amount of time, there are suggestions that he won’t be part of the Italian’s long-term plans.

Added with ten Hag’s comments, Spurs fans are on board with the tricky winger possibly leaving and returning back to Holland.

From Bergwijn’s perspective, he just needs to look at someone like Sebastien Haller, who left West Ham over a year ago, and now he is one of the best forwards in Europe.

Haller is on par with a certain Robert Lewandowski when it comes to scoring goals in the Champions League this season.

And if Bergwijn is seeing that, then he will probably feel that the same could happen to him.

Nonetheless, here is a selection of Spurs fans reacting to what they’re hearing from Holland about Bergwijn:
