Chris Sutton has stated that Aston Villa and Celtic are ‘bigger clubs’ than Rangers, as he told 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live.

The former striker pointed towards both Villa and Celtic winning the European Cup and Rangers not having ‘the big one’ in their trophy cabinet.

All this big club, bigger job talk all started when Steven Gerrard opted to leave Rangers for Villa last month.

Even though Rangers were sitting top of the Scottish Premiership table, he decided to leave for a team that was struggling in the bottom half of the table, at the time.

That sparked a lot of debate as to what is the bigger job and who is the bigger club between the two.

Sutton made his feelings pretty clear on the matter, as he pointed out why the likes of Celtic and Villa are bigger than those from Ibrox.

“Do you know what, why can’t we say that they are both big clubs?” said Sutton.

“I always think that if you win the big one, the European Cup, then you are a big club.

“I said if you win the European Cup, then that makes you a bigger club. Had Celtic come into the equation, they have won the European Cup, they are both massive clubs.

It remains to be seen how Gerrard now fares at Villa and what happens to Rangers for the rest of the season.

Things are going well for the Gers so far, but if Celtic end up winning the Premiership title, then it will be interesting to see how the Ibrox fans react.

But over in the Midlands, Villa have won three out of their four games under their new boss.

Their sole defeat came against the Premier League champions Manchester City and they were probably unlucky not to walk away with a point during that match.
