Liverpool are said to be favourites to sign Borussia Monchengladbach star Denis Zakaria.

According to Gazzetta in Italy, the Reds are in pole position to bring the Swiss star to Anfield.

Zakaria, who earns £51,000 per week, has been on Liverpool’s radar for a quite a while but it seems possible for it to materialise on this occason.

And the 25-year-old will be hoping that his team’s latest result isn’t held against him.

Earlier on Sunday, the German side suffered a shock 6-0 defeat at home to Freiburg.

Despite playing the entire 90 minutes, though, Zakaria seemed to have an okay game.

Well, under the quite shocking circumstances, admittedly.

Going by WhoScored ratings, Zakaria was definitely not the culprit for this poor thumping.

The midfielder, who has 38 Swiss caps to his name, clocked a passing percentage of 90 percent and had two shots at the opposition goal.

Klopp hasn’t yet replaced Gini

It’ll be interesting to see if Liverpool do want him but, let’s be honest, Jurgen Klopp does need a midfielder.

The German manager never replaced Georginio Wijnaldum and although the Merseysiders have done okay without him, their injuries are piling up.

Curtis Jones, Naby Keita and Harvey Elliott are all out of action at the moment and the loss of one more star in this role may be bad news for Klopp.

Thiago has come to be a huge player for Liverpool as of late, however, and the longer he’s in the team, the better Liverpool seem to be doing.

But as mentioned above, Zakaria is a long-term target for Klopp – well, that’s what the papers say at least – and time will tell how accurate the speculation is.
