Speaking on The Overlap, Frank Lampard has been waxing-lyrical about reported Newcastle United target Eden Hazard.

Hazard and Lampard are of course former teammates from their time at Chelsea, but unfortunately for Lamps, he didn’t get the chance to manage the Belgian at Stamford Bridge.

Indeed, Hazard departed the Premier League just before Lampard was appointed at Chelsea, but if reports are to be believed, he could be on his way back to England with Newcastle.

What’s Lampard said about Hazard?

Lampard was full of praise for the winger.

“For me, Eden was the best player in the Premier League, there or thereabouts for sure, and his impact on Chelsea for the last three or four years, and the year before I came I think it was 55 per cent of goals that he’d scored or assisted. When I got there you could feel that the reliance was on him, he’d get us out of trouble Eden on a bad day,” Lampard said.

Lampard spoke about Hazard later in the interview, discussing his early days at Chelsea.

“I remember Hazard’s first year at Chelsea, he ended up being one of the best players the club has ever had, but in those early days he was strolling around, and to be fair to Eden, he had an incredible talent,” Lampard said.

Could be a star at Newcastle

Life in Madrid hasn’t quite gone to plan for Hazard, but if he comes back to England, it may not take long for him to get back to his best.

The Belgian thrived in the Premier League, and a move to Newcastle could be exactly what he needs.

He’d be the Magpies’ star man and the centre of attention at St James’ and there’s every reason to believe he’d flourish under those conditions.
