Steven Gerrard has lauded Marvelous Nakamba for the midfielder’s early performances since taking charge at Villa Park, sparking some Aston Villa fans to react on social media.
Nakamba has been a mainstay of Gerrard’s plans at the Birmingham outfit since he left Rangers to replace Dean Smith. The 27-year-old has opened each of the Villan’s Premier League games under the England icon, matching his three starts under Smith this term.
Smith rarely enlisted Nakamba’s services during his final 11 games at the Aston Villa helm. The now-Norwich boss left him on the bench four times, as many games as he came on in.
Gerrard expected Nakamba would offer a solid option for his engine room at Aston Villa before joining. But the Zimbabwe international’s efforts have proven even more pleasing.
“We knew he was a good player, but we’re really pleased with how he’s gone about it in the past couple of weeks,” Gerrard said, via quotes by the Aston Villa Twitter account.

Gerrard’s praise for Nakamba’s performances during his first three games in charge of Aston Villa so far also sparked some Villans supporters to react on social media.
A few fans have noted their own praise for Nakamba’s initial efforts, while others have also praised Gerrard for helping him find another level to his ability at Aston Villa.
Nakamba joined Aston Villa from Club Brugge in 2019 for £11m, but never established a key role under Smith. The £32.5k-a-week enforcer made a mere total of 13 Premier League appearances last season, but only started nine and watched 25 as an unused substitute.
