Since it arrived on our screens back in 2017, The Sinner has arguably been USA Network’s staple drama series.

Originally billed as a one-off limited series, the Bill Pullman-led anthology returned several times as it proved a ratings hit year after year.

But with season 4 of The Sinner coming to an end on December 1st, fans of the series have been left asking if we could be seeing a season 5.

Season 4 of The Sinner premiered on USA Network on October 13th, 2021 and has been airing weekly with the finale airing on December 1st.

The season begins with a now-retired Harry Ambrose still reeling from the trauma of a case a year earlier.

When the daughter of a prominent island family is embroiled in an unexpected tragedy, Ambrose is reluctantly recruited to investigate while mounting paranoia sweeps the sleepy tourist town.

Will The Sinner return for season 5?

No, The Sinner will not be returning to USA Network for season 5.

That’s because the show’s fourth season has been confirmed as its final instalment.

While The Sinner was renewed for season 4 back in June 2020, it wasn’t until November 17th, 2021, mid-way through season 4, that it was reported that the anthology series would be coming to an end after its current instalment.

Originally, The Sinner was intended as a one-season mini-series but after it premiered to rave reviews and high viewing figures, the show was extended into an anthology, with each new season telling the story of another new case for Harry Ambrose to solve.

Speaking to Deadline about The Sinner’s fate, the show’s creator Derek Simonds said: “It’s been a huge pleasure and a privilege to be able to tell the kind of stories we have on The Sinner these past four seasons.”

“I’m so pleased to complete Harry Ambrose’s dramatic series-long arc as we intended in this final season. A huge thank you to my partner-in-crime, Bill Pullman, and to the talented actors, writers, directors, and crew who gave their all to help realize this show. It’s been an incredible journey.”

Fans don’t want The Sinner to end

It’s safe to say that fans of The Sinner are devastated that the show is coming to an end, with many taking to social media to offer up their thoughts.

One fan on Twitter wrote: “The thing I like about The Sinner is that it’s the closest we will get to a modern day gritty reboot of Columbo without being Columbo. Great stuff, sad it’s ending tonight.”

While another fan simply said of the finale: “This ending to The Sinner got me shook 😳”

And finally, this disappointed fan said: “I can’t believe this is the final season of The Sinner! All the good scripted shows are cancelled and the horrible (cheap to make) reality series are kept on. Such a shame. 😟”
