Some Arsenal fans are calling on Mikel Arteta to start Gabriel Martinelli up front tonight.

Arsenal are gearing up for a tricky visit to Manchester United in the Premier League.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the match winner for the Gunners at Old Trafford last season.

But the 32-year-old, who missed an open goal against Newcastle United last weekend, looks to be struggling for confidence right now.

In the same game, Martinelli, a £6 million signing in 2019, got his back in a big way by scoring a brilliant second goal for Arteta’s side.

The 20-year-old Brazilian latched on to an over-the-top ball and thumped home a half volley into the roof of the net, beyond Martin Dubravka.

It was a reminder of Martinelli’s ability following a stop-start last two years or so.

Under Unai Emery, he was labelled a talent of the century by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp but his progress has stifled a little since then, it has to be said.

But some Arsenal fans want the Spanish coach to unleash him in a number nine role against the Red Devils later today.

Here’s what they’re saying on Twitter:
