Darren Bent has stated that Diogo Jota was ‘livid’ with Allan’s tackle on him during Liverpool’s 4-1 win against Everton on Wednesday night, as he told Soccer Special on Sky Sports.

The former striker stated that Jota was ‘screaming’ at the Everton midfielder after his ‘other leg’ caught the Liverpool man’s calf following his tackle.

The incident occurred in the first half when Liverpool were winning 2-0 and things were starting to become feisty between the two sides.

Whilst Everton lacked the quality, one thing they made sure that they showed in abundance was pure aggression and ensuring life was going to be tough for their free-flowing opponents.

But this is what Bent had to say about Allan’s tackle yesterday on Jota and how the Liverpool speedster reacted.

“It’s starting to turn fiery,” said Bent. “Everton players are, of course, starting to get frustrated now.

“I don’t think the challenge was that bad, but he tackles Diogo Jota. But as he won the ball, his other leg caught his calf. I didn’t think it was that bad of a foul.

“But Jota went down and he is absolutely livid. He’s still screaming at him now. I don’t know what he’s saying. But he’s screaming abuse at him. He’s not happy with the tackle.”

Given what happened during the Merseyside derby last season at Goodison, it’s understandable why there would be such a reaction from someone like Jota.

He would have seen his teammates seriously injured last season and would have been worrying that the same possibly could have occurred again this time around.

But players from both sets of teams walked away unscathed in what was a passionate and hotly-contested game under the lights.

It was a near-perfect return to Goodison Park for someone like Virgil van Dijk also, who would have been annoyed at the only goal they conceded.
