Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is already eyeing a raid on former club Rangers having targeted a move for teenage defender Leon King.

That’s according to the Birmingham Mail, who claim that Villa are hoping to lure King away from Ibrox in 2022.

Rangers are in talks to keep King and want to give him a new deal soon.

King has yet to agree a deal and is out of contract at the end of the season.

Gerrard now wants to take advantage and take King to Villa Park in a deal that may only cost around £200,000.

Cross-border compensation rules mean Rangers would be left with a tiny fee if King heads to England.

Manchester United, Newcastle United and Leicester City are all keen on King too.

However, Villa seemingly feel they can win the race by offering to reunite King with ex-Rangers boss Gerrard.

Gerrard promoted King to the Rangers first-team in training sessions and even in two cup games.

Around this time last year, Gerrard suggested that King was training so well that he just couldn’t be ignored at Rangers.

Ian Durrant has even suggested that ‘everyone’ at Ibrox raves about King and his potential for the future.

This would be quite the coup for Villa, but Gerrard pinching King could leave many at Ibrox absolutely raging just weeks after his Rangers exit.
