Rangers defender Leon King is the latest in an ever-growing list of Ibrox talents linked with a reunion with Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa – but Gers fans were left scratching their head after the Scottish Sun managed to mix the defender up with midfielder Charlie McCann.
The Scottish Sun rehashed a report from the Birmingham Mail that Villa are “leading the race” to sign King with the talented youngster’s contract up in the summer, although fans struggled to take it seriously when they managed to picture the wrong player in a now-deleted tweet.
Rangers would only receive as little as £200,000 is King was to move on at the end of his contract, although the Light Blues think highly of the Scotland youth international and aren’t likely to let him leave without a fight.
Teenage defender King has made a handful of first-team appearances for Rangers after being handed his first-team debut in a League Cup clash with Falkirk last season.
This term, King has yet to appear for the first-team but has been a consistent feature in the Rangers B team in the Lowland League – alongside McCann.
McCann moved to Rangers this summer from Manchester United and the midfielder has quickly caught the eye for the Light Blues with a number of impressive performances for David McCallum’s B team.
The Irish youth international has been tipped for a role with the Rangers first-team at Ibrox before too long, although it’s unlikely that he’ll be appearing at centre-back any time soon.
With Rangers fans far from convinced over the possibility of King moving on this summer when his contract ends – they were quick to put the boot into The Sun after their mix-up.
Here are some of the comments from Rangers fans in stitches at the mix-up between Leon King and Charlie McCann:
