Since it first arrived on our screens, Money Heist – aka. La Casa De Papel – has become one of Netflix’s biggest shows and until the arrival of Squid Game, was the streaming service’s most-watched non-English language series.

Season 5 of the hit show concludes with volume 2 in December and it promises to be an explosive and action-packed thrill ride as we find out the fate of the heist crew at the heart of the show.

However, as season 5 is drawing to a close, Money Heist fans are turning their attention to what’s next for the series and if La Casa De Papel will be returning for season 6.

Money Heist season 5 volume 2 release date and plot

Volume 2 of Money Heist season 5 arrives on Netflix on Friday, December 3rd, 2021, exactly three months since volume 1 ended on a dramatic cliffhanger.

With the heist crew now down a key member, the new episodes will see just how (and if) the remaining survivors will escape the clutches of the army, who stormed the Bank of Spain in the volume 1 finale.

As well as the fates of those in the bank, a huge question mark hangs over the safety of the Professor as he still has the scheming Alicia Sierra for company, and while the pair may have bonded in volume 1, can she really be trusted?

Will there be a Money Heist season 6?

No, Money Heist will not be returning to Netflix for season 6.

That’s because season 5 has been confirmed as Money Heist’s final instalment.

When Netflix renewed La Casa De Papel for its fifth season, the streaming service also announced that it would serve as the show’s final outing.

Speaking to Variety, Money Heist creator and showrunner, Álex Pina said: “We felt that we had to change what was expected from the ten-episode season and used every tool we could to create the sensation of a season finale or series finale in the first volume itself.

“We decided to work in an extremely aggressive genre, putting The Gang on the ropes. In volume 2, we focus more on the emotional situation of the characters. It is a journey across their sentimental map that connects us directly to their departure.”

The story goes on

While La Casa De Papel may be ending with its fifth season, the Money Heist franchise is expected to live on for a little while longer.

That’s because Netflix has confirmed that a spin-off series is in the works.

Scheduled to arrive in 2023, the spin-off is titled Berlin and will focus on Pedro Alonso’s character, who could still prove pivotal in the final episodes of the main series.

As the spin-off is still two years away, no details about the show have been revealed just yet.
